I only got the bronze Ursa Major - because i figured that i would get the gold drop if i helped my friends beat each boss. So i'm stuck with this bronze animal in a host of gold drops; is there anyway i can remove it?

This animal can only be gained by killing the four bosses, helpers don't get the drop even if they've gained all 4 boss loots.

It should be noted that those helping (and getting the other rewards) don't gain this drop upon death of four bosses. You need to kill all four bosses in each tier YOURSELF to get this animal.
