The popular Facebook game Mafia Wars has just introduced a new game "tool": animals to use in the fights, including but not limited to snarling pit bulls.

This is not the image of pit bulls that people should be promoting. Sure, it's just a game, but perpetuating the image of pit bulls as fighting machines is reckless and wrong. It is particularly troubling in light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that struck down a law banning the distribution of videos glorifying such cruelty to animals. Pit bulls already face a public relations battle and are the most abused breed of dog. PETA's fieldworkers see pit bulls in horrific conditions every day. They are frequently kept chained or penned, they are taunted and trained to be aggressive, and they are beaten and starved—sometimes to death. This is a rare, er, misfire for Zynga, the maker of lots of popular online games (you might have heard of a little one called Farmville). Zynga recently started offering special bulldogs in YoVille, the proceeds of which are donated to the San Francisco SPCA. So let's hope that it will listen to our appeal. You can also send the company your own polite comments asking it to leave animals out of Mafia Wars. Thanks for all your support and your fantastic comments about this awful addition to Mafia Wars.       Amen to that! Seriously..this game isnt exactly "promoting the right image" of anything. It's fun and enjoyable..nothing more and nothing less. Now..if it would have had a bloody ripped off hand in his mouth..then i could understand.

      While I may not agree with PETA on many things, as a pit bull owner myself, I applaud the effort to combat the stereotype that has grown up around this breed. Every generation has it's media-targeted vicious dog (the 80s had Dobermans and Rotweilers) but the reality is every dog can be a predator and has the capability to inflict harm on humans but most dog attacks are provoked and/or due to some other human negligence during the dog's development. I'm sick of people seeing my dog and giving me the evil eye especially when they learn I have small children in my house.

    Man alive, I hate PETA. It appears those freaks love nothing more than ruining good clean fun for others (Though I like gorillas better than pit bulls anyway). 1. Their insane founder, Ingrid Newkirk, has openly stated that, following the Michael Vik incident, all pit bulls (As in the ENTIRE BREED) should be rounded up and euthanized to prevent such things from happening again. 2. It was revealed that PETA's "No kill" animal shelters in fact kill over 90% of the animals that they take in, a fact first brought to light after a couple of PETA employees were caught disposing of the bodies of a bunch of dead dogs and cats in a dumpster. That hardly sounds like "Ethical treatment of animals" to me. 3. I wonder how many of those hypocritical pigs fully support abortion? News flash, PETA freaks: The vast majority of normal human beings despise you. We don't like having a bunch of self- righteous, obnoxious, foul- smelling, dirty hippies screaming at us for playing a video game, eating meat (Actually, the PETA freaks throw temper tantrums over anyone eating anything that's not completely vegan), wearing fur, fishing, or any one of a number of other good, legal activities that normal people enjoy doing. We hate you and your repulsive organization, and wish you would go away and never return to darken our doors again.

    Yeah. Exactly. It's like the Episode of, "South Park", where They aren't allowed to show the Face of Mohammed. (Before Someone gives Me abuse, I'm all for respecting other People's Beliefs, and I think that what Everyone Believes, is equally important, as what I do.). The point of it was, that by making ONE concession, They opened Themselves up, to be given abuse, from EVERYONE. I mean, I personally think that it's offensive, that all of the Pictures of, "Jesus", are white. (I'm a Gringo Myself, so that's not a racist comment.). (Oh, and this isn't about Religion.).

    Then, most annoying of all, Every time Someone says Something, that could be believed to be racist, or discriminant... They get grief for it, so NOBODY listens.

    Although, this is somewhat of a Segway... To Answer Someone else's response... Pit Bulls haven't been banned, although, I believe that You do need a Licence, in the UK. IF You own one.

    ... Yeah, who's promoting Animals as Weapons, now...

    I worked hard in the "animals gone wild week" to get also 70 RP for Lion and Pit Bull as a souvenir. I was proud when I achieved it. And now my Pit Bull is not replaced by 35 RP back, it is replaced by an ugly but also aggressive gorilla? What does PETA says to that ape?

    Zynga listened and pit bulls are no longer an option as a weapon on Mafia Wars. A little FYI about PETA they are for BSL (breed specific legislation) meaning they WANT all pit bulls to be euthanized. They use the excuse that they want to stop the suffering of the abused and abandond pit bulls, so instead of educating pit bull owners, children and communities People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals supports wiping out the pit bull breed entirely???? Doesn't sound so ethical to me! PETA is nothing but a hypocritical and money driven organization that want nothing more but to make headline news. They couldn't care less about the animals!
